The Mom Village: Building Your Support System
When it comes to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, the old adage “it takes a village” couldn’t be more true. Becoming a parent is a profound journey full of joys, challenges, and new experiences.
My transition to motherhood was difficult and lonely. When I had a second chance, I opened up to receiving support. I had a great team by my side during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
My transition to motherhood was challenging in many ways: I was sick a lot during pregnancy, had a traumatic unplanned c-section, and postpartum depression and anxiety. I felt lonely but didn’t know how to ask for help. Unfortunately, women are conditioned to do it all and well without complaining. This is the narrative that we have integrated.
After healing from the experience, I decided it was time for a second chance. When I got pregnant again, I knew I wanted to do things differently. The biggest shit for me was accepting that I needed help. This is the feminine energy, opening up to receive. When I felt ready to take this step, I decided to work with a midwife, a birth doula, and a postpartum doula.
Wherever you are in your motherhood journey, I invite you to think about your support system and what you can do to receive more. While every family’s needs are unique, having a team of trusted professionals by your side can make all the difference in ensuring a confident and supported journey from pregnancy through postpartum.
The first thing that needs to happen is YOUR decision to receive. You need to fully lean on your feminine energy and ASK for help. If you’re ready to take this step but don’t know where to start, I’d love to recommend a trusted team of professionals who can support you during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
